Why This Foundation Exists: Honoring the Legacy of Bob Haddock
The Bob Haddock Troop and Family Support Foundation was created in honor of a man whose life was defined by generosity, humility, and a deep commitment to helping others. Bob Haddock found peace in 2022 at the age of 84, leaving behind a legacy of kindness that continues to guide our mission today.
Bob made Milwaukee his home and embraced the community wholeheartedly. He loved the people, the energy of the city, and the friendships he built over the years. He believed deeply in the power of connection and community, and he lived that belief every day.
Bob also found joy in the simple things that brought people together. He was an avid golfer who cherished the camaraderie of the game and the friendships formed on the course. He had a lifelong appreciation for classic cars, taking pride in their craftsmanship and the stories they carried. These passions reflected his personality…steady, thoughtful, and always eager to share a moment with others.
His faith was another cornerstone of his life. Bob was devoted to his church and found strength, purpose, and comfort in his spiritual community. His belief in service, compassion, and caring for one another was deeply rooted in his faith and shaped the way he moved through the world.
After a long career in the trucking industry, Bob devoted much of his retirement to service. He poured his time and heart into volunteering, especially through programs that empowered young people and strengthened the Milwaukee community. He believed that giving back was not just important, it was essential.
During his battle with cancer, Bob experienced firsthand the impact of compassion. His neighbors and the dedicated medical teams who cared for him surrounded him with support, dignity, and kindness. That experience shaped his understanding of what it means to show up for others in their most vulnerable moments.
In accordance with Bob’s wishes, this foundation was started by his great-niece using funds he personally set aside. With more than 20 years of military service herself, she immediately knew how she wanted to honor Bob’s lifelong commitment to community: by creating an organization dedicated to supporting military service members, veterans, and their families. His only request was simple and deeply reflective of who he was…that the money be used for the good of the community. That guiding principle is at the heart of everything we do.
Bob’s spirit of service, his gratitude for community, and his unwavering belief in helping others are the driving forces behind this foundation. His life reminds us that support, compassion, and connection can transform hardship into hope. Through this foundation, we carry forward his legacy by ensuring that military service members, veterans, and their families never face their challenges alone.
